About the Opportunity

This is a rare leadership opportunity to establish yourself within Alcoa’s WA Bauxite environmental team as a Senior Research Scientist, based at the Huntly mine. This senior position directs a comprehensive research program supporting continual improvement for Alcoa’s mining environmental management and mine rehabilitation consistent with the WA Bauxite Rehabilitation Strategy. The position has influence not just in Western Australia but also has the potential to influence other Alcoa operations worldwide.

Seen as a critical role within the organisation, your main duties will include:

Planning, implementing and supervising complex medium- to large-scale research projects, both internally and with external collaborating organisations, and jointly supervising postgraduate student projects.

Developing rehabilitation assessment technologies to support final sign-off of older rehabilitation areas.

Overseeing and contributing to a range of research supporting WA Bauxite’s Biodiversity Action Plan including threatened species management and salinity risk assessment.

Communicating results to diverse internal and external stakeholders at local, national and international forums including presentations, written scientific publication and hosting minesite inspections.

Contributing specialist ecological knowledge to other mine rehabilitation programs at Alcoa operations worldwide, and

Providing leadership and guidance of direct reports, developing team capabilities.

For the right candidate, flexible work arrangements would be considered for this role.  Please let us know when you apply if this is something you are seeking.
